Revellers Carnival Club
Every year we build a large carnival float with lights, music, moving parts and dancers and enter it in all the local carnivals and a few of the big ones in the Somerset area. We raise all the money to build the float ourselves and, by participating in the carnivals, help to raise money for all the charities that the various town committees support.
We have between 20 -30 members, male and female, currently aged between 13 to 70.
There is a lot of work to do to build and fundraise for the float but this involves quite a social element and gives you a great sense of satisfaction when you see the float finished and the looks on the faces of the crowd when they see the spectacle you have helped to create in the procession. Members also have the opportunity to meet lots of people from other clubs from all over North Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon and Somerset at carnivals, parties, etc.
We are always looking for new members but anybody with skills such as electricals, carpentry, engineering, sewing or carpentry, or just time on their hands, would be particularly welcomed.
If anybody is interested in joining or just helping us, please could they contact the Secretary, Kathy Webber on 01747 851764 or send an e-mail to kathy_webber at hotmail dot com.
