Coffee Republic or Fulham in the F.A. Cup
I used to support Wimbledon F.C. until, of course, that fateful day whan an F.A. comission ruled that fans didn't matter - business did and allowed the owners to uproot and move 70 miles to the north of the area from which the team had it's roots and was established.
One such show of support was this effort to watch a cup game that we lost; it's staying here for the memories and maybe will show what support means when Wimbledon F.C. play in an empty soleless stadium - again!
Wimbledon were drawn against Fulham in the F.A. Cup; as Craven Cottage is the closest ground to Wimbledon a special effort was called for!
The day started early with a taxi to the airport at 5:30 (after 2 hrs sleep and a night out in Stockholm).
Flight to Heathrow at 7:30 arriving at 9:15, Heathrow Express to Paddington and Underground to Wimbledon. Arrival in The Alexander (Pub) in Wimbledon at 11:10.
After a couple of pints of lager I decided that Vodka Red Bulls were the order of the day and consumed several before we decided to depart at about 13:00.
We entered an off-license on the way to the station, Jonesy was going to get a half bottle of Vodka, I then suggested a full bottle, and we got 4 or so Red Bulls too. Tim was then volunteered to go into Coffee Republic to acquire a few cups. So we poured 4 very large Vodka Red Bulls into brown paper Coffee Republic cups and we walked up to the station. Several comments of "Pah, coffee already then" were heard and ignored.
On arrival at Fulham a further 4 were poured and consumed - 20 mins 1 bottle of vodka finished!
More alchol and large amounts of singing outside The Eight Bells in Fulham and then off to the game, well some went earlier than others. An Officer of the Law asked me if I was drunk I don't actually remember the answer but I got in! Then there was the game, not much to be said, we lost - Badly.
So off for a few drinks in Fulham, take aways from the offie for the train, arrival back in the Alexander to finish off the day, and I left at about 10p.m. for a few hours of sleep before the taxi for the return flight arrived at 7am on Sunday Morning!
